MoraLs - New Library System of University of Moratuwa was officially launched on 15th September, 2015 by Prof. A.K.W. Jayawardane, the Vice-Chancellor, University of Moratuwa with participation of distinguished gathering.
Library automation around the world has a very short history. The process originated for Sri Lanka in 1983 and for University of Moratuwa in 1991 and paved the way to new era. University of Moratuwa Library had the blessing to be the first Sri Lankan University Library to link its catalogue to world wide web in 1998 as well as to be the first fully automated Sri Lankan Library in 2001 using LIBSYS software.
Information and communication technologies have created marvels in ways and means of library processes. As such a team headed by two Senior Assistant Librarians, Mr. A.D.B. Kumara and Mr. C.N.D. Punchihewa wished to move ahead with open access which include added values compatible with present developments in information and communication technologies. Koha adopted in 2014 was the best option when considering the factors such as zero budget cost for installation and maintenance and the impressive developing features such as integration of the powerful Zebra indexing engines, strong patron management and web based solutions. etc.
With the pioneering spirit of Mr. A.D.B. Kumara and Mr. C.N.D. Punchihewa and utmost dedication of Library staff, MoraLs was launched to serve University of Moratuwa Library community in much improved way as well as network with all Sri Lankan University Libraries.
